Reflexology - Creating better health from within

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a technique that deals with the principle that there are reflexes in the feet and hands that correspond with all organs, glands and parts of the body.  It is a unique method of using thumbs and fingers on these reflex points.

Stimulating these reflexes properly may help to remedy many health problems in a natural way.  It may also be used to promote general well being and prevent the onset of health problems.

Reflexology may help to:

  • Relieve stress and tension

  • Improve nerve and blood supply

  • Balance the body

  • Relieve congestion

  • Aid circulation

  • Relax muscles

  • Calm over activity in any part of the body and stimulate under activity

  • Improve cooperation and coordination between the bodily systems

  • Relieve the symptoms of: chronic fatigue, stress, digestive disorders, insomnia, asthma, migraine, arthritis, PMT, menopause and so much more.

Reflexology was practised as early as 2330B.C. by the Egyptians.  Contemporary reflexology was first researched and developed by Eunice Ingham, the pioneer in this field and founder of the International Institute of Reflexology.

Who can benefit from reflexology?
Reflexology treats the whole person, not the symptom.  Most people benefit from treatment, regardless of age or state of their health.
Reflexology is a complementary therapy that sits well alongside orthodox medicine.  However, it should not be used as a replacement for professional medical advice.

What happens when I go for treatment?
At your first visit, I will undertake a brief consultation to gain a clear picture of your present and past health and lifestyle.  This will allow me to tailor the treatment to meet your own specific needs.  All the information provided is confidential.
You will need to remove your shoes and socks or tights and you will sit comfortably in a reclining chair.  I will wipe your feet and begin the treatment with a series of relaxation techniques.  I will then apply gentle pressure to your feet using my hands to release blockages and ease tension.  As a result, your circulation will improve giving your body the opportunity to heal itself.  It may be possible for me to identify crystalline deposits under the skin of your feet where an imbalance has occurred.  The initial session will last about one hour.  Thereafter the treatment lasts about 45 minutes.  The fee is currently £28 for an initial consultation and £25 per session thereafter.

How many treatments will I need?
Everyone is unique and will therefore respond differently to reflexology.  Whilst many people experience immediate improvements from reflexology, you should expect to have 3-4 treatments to see a significant benefit.

Generally, the longer a condition has been present in the body, the longer it will take to respond.  Most conditions will require a course of six weekly treatments.  Even if you do improve after fewer treatments, it is advisable to keep going to build up your body and help prevent any reoccurring symptoms.  Following an initial course of treatment, you are advised to continue a general course of treatments on a monthly basis for general maintenance of your well being.

How will I feel after a reflexology treatment?
After a reflexology treatment, it is common for your feet to feel warm and relaxed.  Occasionally, you may experience mild reactions when the body begins its self healing process and elimination of toxins.  These reactions are only temporary and should clear within 24 hours of treatment.  They are positive signals that your body has responded and is balancing itself.

Following a treatment clients are advised to:

Drink plenty of fresh water (at least 8, ½ pint glasses during 24 hours)
Avoid alcohol for 24 hours as the reflexology can speed up the effect that this stimulant has on the body
Reduce your caffeine intake (including colas)
Eat light, healthy meals.

I will show you how to perform some hand reflexology that you can use to help yourself in between appointments.  Try to do your hand reflexology as often as possible.
